Milwaukee based company, Clarios, is closing in on securing $150 million in federal grants from the U.S. Department of Energy to build a lithium-ion battery recycling facility in Florence, South Carolina. The battery manufacturer is responsible for supplying on average one in three of the world’s car batteries.
Clarios, which operates in over 150 countries, is committing to sustainably recycle batteries in electric vehicles (EVs), start-stop systems, along with other energy-efficient technologies.
The new facility in Florence will potentially create over 375 permanent jobs along with 1,200 construction jobs. The facility aims to support a circular economy by recycling batteries, aligning with clean energy goals and community development initiatives.
The project is part of a broader strategy to advance sustainable battery manufacturing in the U.S.
