Well, the NBA season tipped off with a bang last night as the Bucks took care of business against the shorthanded Sixers.
Even without their stars Embiid and Harden, Philly put up a fight, but Milwaukee's dynamic duo of Lillard and Giannis was just too much.
Let's start with Lillard - this guy came out on a mission, dropping 30 points and splashing 6 threes. He was in takeover mode all night, with 15 points just in the third quarter. You see, the Sixers had no answer for the Lillard-Lopez pick and roll. Coach Bud had Brook setting screens way out behind the arc, which gave Dame time and space to work on his magic. What's crazy is that some of Lopez's picks were nearly half-court!
As for Giannis, what else can you say? It was just a ho-hum night of 25 points on efficient shooting to go along with a game-high 14 boards. He and Lillard became the first teammates in Bucks history to put up 25-5-5 on opening night. Not bad, right?
The supporting cast also stepped up. Bobby Portis and Taurean Prince each went for 16 points, as the Bucks drained 16 treys as a squad. There was one sequence in the 2nd quarter where Portis absolutely took over on both ends - blocking a shot, grabbing a board, dishing an assist, picking off a steal and finishing a layup. Talk about stuffing the stat sheet!
As for the Sixers, they fought hard, led by Tyrese Maxey, who scored 25 points. But in the end, Milwaukee's firepower was too overwhelming.
So the Bucks start the year 1-0. They'll raise their championship banner on Friday in the home opener versus the Bulls. That's sure to be an electrifying atmosphere. Meanwhile, the Sixers will look to bounce back, but it won't be easy facing Toronto on the road. Either way, this NBA season is off to an entertaining start!
